The Secrets of Heaven by Reni Stankova is the second book in The Heaven Trilogy. Raphael and Dante's five years of peaceful exile in the mountains has come to a brutal end. Archangel Remiel, Heaven’s elite investigator, is tasked with tracking them down and ensuring their execution. Forced into a desperate flight across three continents, the fugitives are not only pursued by Heaven’s most dangerous warriors but also entangled in a mystery from Raphael’s past. A lost artifact, tied to his mother’s murder, threatens to upend the foundations of Heaven itself. As they race toward an isolated island in the Holy Land, Raphael and Dante confront old allies turned enemies, betrayal, and the unraveling of their deep bond. The more they uncover, the greater the danger, leading to an ultimate question: Will Heaven survive the truth, or will it burn?
Author Reni Stankova has a fantastic sense of pacing that keeps a reader interested in the story and always knows when to shift tones in this heady mix of action, romance, and theological intrigue. It certainly makes for a concept that draws you in. I wanted to stay for the characters to find out more about their intense struggles. I adored the dialogue and all the unsaid things that Stankova lets simmer beneath the surface. The chemistry between Raphael and Dante is electric from cover to cover, making their struggles all the more poignant and keeping us rooting for them. The plot twists were numerous, but they didn’t feel overdone or sensationalised because the confident narration and well-planned events are logical and grounded in reality. This makes for a thrilling, globe-spanning chase that keeps readers breathless from start to finish. Overall, I would certainly recommend The Secrets of Heaven as a bold and thought-provoking read to fans of original fantasy fiction.
