Toby the Trusting Turtle by Lynn Domenick McKenzie is a children’s tale about a painted turtle named Toby who lives in a marsh. Toby enjoys the marsh when it is bustling with the activity of the ducks, bugs and the other wildlife but the summer is just too hot. He meets two children, Doug and Gina, who live in a nearby house and they offer him a wonderful deal. Will Toby accept the deal Doug and Gina offer? Will the children keep their promise to Toby to return him when the leaves begin to fall? Will this new-found friendship grow as a result of the deal?
Toby the Trusting Turtle by Lynn Domenick McKenzie is a fun children’s book with an easy to follow plot that any child would love to read. I loved the characters and the bond they have with one another and how their friendship with Toby the Turtle evolves so easily. The illustrations are colorful and fun as they visually tell the story alongside McKenzie’s words. I recommend Toby the Trusting Turtle to anyone who has children or enjoys reading to them. I love that Toby The Trusting Turtle encourages kids to find friendship in others and to be helpful regardless of where their friend is from or what shape and size they are. This story will easily become a children’s favorite and I truly hope that McKenzie has many more stories like Toby the Trusting Turtle with such a wonderful lesson for kids to learn as they read.
