The Unification Mission: The Price of Redemption (The Great Leap Backward Book 2) by Kelly Curtis is the second installment of this highly engaging science fiction series. The year is 2635, and humans have abandoned almost all technology after the spread of the tech u disease. There’s no social media, mobile phones, and personal technology on Earth. To survive in the galaxy, however, humans trade art, music, and food for weapons and military equipment. The mighty Shimbahn Unification of 5 has agreed to a trade and choose Captain Alma Johnson to lead the three-year Unification mission. After being disgraced after the Mars One incident, she could redeem herself through the success of this mission. During the negotiation with Admiral Val, she is surprised that the Unification wants young human women as part of the trade. The admiral also wants Captain Johnson’s commitment to the negotiations.

The Unification Mission by Kelly Curtis is a must-read for all science fiction lovers. With the overwhelming impact of technology on our world today, the author has created a future where humans have no access to technology, and it’s most refreshing. I love the idea of humans taking a break from technology. Captain Alma Johnson is a compelling and relatable character. The notion of trading human women for weapons and technology is also intriguing. The book is a highly credible science fiction novel that dwells on social issues. The plot flows smoothly, with enough twists and turns to keep the reader’s attention. I highly recommend this novel, especially to those who think technology is taking over our lives!

The isolation of the earth has long protected the human race, but it is no longer an effective barrier. It is 2635, and most people on earth live and work with as little technology as possible after humanity banned most technology on the planet in 2135. The galaxy is full of threats from other powerful civilizations that threaten the earth, such as Terra Nova. Humanity's governing body, the Joint Confederacy, seeks assistance from the Shimbahn Unification of 5, one of the greatest civilizations in our galaxy. Captain Alma Johnson is chosen to travel across the galaxy and take charge of the mission to Shimbahn, where she will trade human art, food, and drama for jump drives and weaponry. However, far from providing the earth with protection, this agreement may cause the earth to lose contact with Red, a civilization that is a close trading ally. Worse, there is a chance that the agreement will collapse, given the fact that the Shimbahn wants more than just human art and cuisine. Only by exchanging human females will this exchange result in the assistance earth desperately requires. Will humans pay such a high price for redemption? To find out, read Kelly Curtis' The Unification Mission: The Price of Redemption (The Great Leap Backward Book 2).

I adored this story's overall concept, and I'm glad it offered something fresh. One of science fiction writers' most essential abilities is to create an imaginative location with logical characteristics like history, geography, and ecology. Kelly Curtis excels at introducing the reader to completely new and exotic locations, religions, and governments through her solid world-building skills. The environment drew me into the story by grabbing my imagination and putting me inside the author's mind. Despite the plot's complexity, the author kept the story moving at a good pace, and as a result, I was never lost or bored. Curtis used conversations between characters in the current and foreshadowed events without deviating from the plot. I had a comprehensive understanding of each scene. I enjoyed The Unification Mission and believe that no sci-fi or fantasy fan should miss it. It paints a lovely image of the lengths we will go to to ensure our survival.

The Unification Mission: The Price of Redemption is the second book in The Great Leap Backward Book Series by Kelly Curtis. The storyline works effectively well as a standalone novel. In the year 2635, what you expect to be a future where science and technology flourish takes a backward stance, as humanity gives up on all the trouble that social technology has caused. As humans go back to the basics, celebrating real interactions, the mighty Shimbahn Unification of 5 finally takes notice of Earth and has agreed to trade. Captain Alma Johnson, a disgraced military officer, has been assigned to cross the galaxy for this mission with a likelihood that she may never return. On top of that, she is about to discover that Earthlings and the Unification have huge differences in politics and gender relationships, especially since she draws the attention of Admiral Var of the Shimbahn social class.

The Unification Mission by Kelly Curtis is fun and highly entertaining. I like the idea of humanity giving up on social media in order to reconnect and pick up the pieces. Moreover, it’s a thrilling concept and a unique idea in science fiction to make aliens trade art with humans—we certainly have a lot to offer when it comes to culture and cuisine. Even if it’s highly speculative, the novel is filled with affecting character moments, especially when you have a heroine who is haunted by her past while trying to navigate her way through alien politics, where touching someone is a crime. All the science and events unfolding here may not be plausible, but it makes you tend to believe that maybe in the far-off future, it could happen. Why? Because the writing is intelligent and its social commentary isn’t preachy. Do you want a smart and romantic space opera? You got it. This is the book for you.

The Unification Mission: The Price of Redemption is the second book in the Great Leap Backward Series. The story follows Alma Johnson on her space missions. In this book, she travels on an assignment to the Empire or The Shimbahn Unification of 5. It is here she meets Admiral Var, the next heir to the throne. The number of people in the Empire is decreasing because of the scarcity of women on their planet. They believe human beings are the prophesied lost descendants of their people, and Alma's trip could not have come at a better time. They have passed a law to integrate humans into their lives for procreation. Alma, on the other hand, wants to save her people by exchanging art, music, and food for weapons to help them fight against a rebellion on earth. Everyone has a hidden agenda and wishes to succeed for their people. Read The Unification Mission by Kelly Curtis to find out if they will be successful.

The Unification Mission is a unique take on science fiction because humans do not have advanced technology like in most cases. They have regressed backward and decided not to have advanced technology. The decision has put them in danger of rebellious factions. To maintain their peace, they seek help from an alien race that looks similar to them. I loved Var and Alma's romance; the two had instant chemistry, and everyone could tell something was happening between them. It was seamless how the religions, traditions, histories, and cultures of the aliens and humans were explained. The author did not dedicate a whole section of the book to explaining the different cultures and traditions of these characters. Instead, this was infused into the story through conversations and dialog, which made the story engaging because I learned about the different histories and cultures in real time with Alma and her team. The story was flawless and had intriguing plot twists, captivating characters, and beautiful descriptions. The end left me craving more.

In The Unification Mission: The Price of Redemption (The Great Leap Backward Book 2) by Kelly Curtis, it is the 27th century and the earth is nothing like we know it. Technology has become something of the past and people use basic means of social and physical interaction. The Joint Confederacy governs the planet but with the terrorist attacks of the Terra Nova rebellion ramping up, it is just a question of when the government will fall. In a last-ditch effort to salvage a rapidly deteriorating situation, the Joint Confederacy sends a delegation to the Shimbahn Unification of 5 for technological assistance, led by the controversial captain Alma Johnson. Alma and her crew are about to become pawns in a game of intergalactic chess where the stakes are dangerously high for all the parties involved. Will Alma put the success of her mission above her well-being when it becomes obvious this is the only viable option?

The storyline in The Unification Mission by Kelly Curtis is quite ingenious, with a conspiracy that would take an adept mind to unravel into the simplicity of a love story. The attention to detail is simply breathtaking. Characters and locations were described in such a manner that I was completely immersed in the story. Another stroke of pure genius from Curtis was in outlining the various abbreviations of the people and items that make up the story from the outset. It made my understanding of such a complicated story so much simpler. Diseases such as Tech flu and the fables of the lost people make this novel feel like an authentic depiction of a future world. With romance, fights, and palace intrigue, this novel has it all in spades and is a cut above the rest of its genre.
