In The Three Stones of Ebon by David and Keiko Mello, Sturgus is facing trouble. Jack is only 11, but he already knows there is something strange about the lady down the road. When he receives a gift from her, it takes him and Lucky, his cat, straight to Sturgus, a wonderful, enchanted land where he discovers his cat can talk. As he explores this strange land, Jack discovers why he has been sent to Sturgus – it's down to him to save the entire civilization. Together with a magic student, Abigail, Jack and Lucky must face challenges as they set off on a quest to find the Three Stones of Ebon, the only way to awaken Sturgus' rightful protector before evil can take over for good. Can they find the stones, or will the cursed assassin stop them in their tracks?
The Three Stones of Ebon by David and Keiko Mello is an amazing adventure. I'm not ashamed to say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as an adult. This is a fun, exceptionally well-written story with some cool characters. I especially loved Lucky, the sassy cat. This book is packed with action and lots of colorful creatures and characters other than the main ones. You'll struggle to put it down once you start reading. The writing flows well and is descriptive enough to transport you to Sturgus and experience the wonders of the land for yourself, not to mention the excitement and trouble the kids and cat get into on their adventure. This is an engaging story and kids (and adults) will love it. Will there be a sequel? I hope so.
