The Silver Hairbrush is a work of fiction written for children and presented in the form of an illustrated book by author Taryn M. Aina with illustrations from artist Emily Hercock. As the title suggests, this tender and beautifully represented tale centers around a hairbrush which is passed down through several generations in one family. As the story talks of a mother brushing her little girl’s hair, we are told all about the importance of family bonding, love, motherhood, and powerful emotional connections that last a lifetime. The work is a celebratory and serene piece which will be sure to give a good feeling to readers one and all.
Author Taryn M. Aina has captured a poignant moment with her children’s picture book, which will be just as fulfilling for parents and guardians to read to their little ones as for the kids themselves. The repeated themes in the smooth, imagery-filled prose make for a joyous atmosphere, and the emotional journey is unique for a picture book, delivering moments of highly imaginative adventure alongside coping with loss, sadness, and remembering life fondly as we look back. In terms of illustrative quality, artist Emily Hercock enhances the work even more with her expressive, beautiful figures, each familiar in their family resemblance but also distinct in personality. Overall, I found The Silver Hairbrush to be a deeply fulfilling and heart-warming read, and I would highly recommend it for mothers, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, and every little girl who adores that special bonding time with them.
