The Seven: The Lost Tale of Dellerin is a work of fiction in the fantasy, action and adventure sub-genres, and was penned by author Robert J. Power. Suitable for adult readers, the work contains many scenes of violence, the use of explicit language and sexual scenes and references. The plot takes us deep into a world of unlikely heroes, where despair and ruin have overtaken the lives of all who have survived. The Seven are a thing of legend: a band of warriors destined to rise up against the dark, and the opening of a mysterious book which has survived The Dark One’s gaze is about to bring legends back to life.
A truly dark work that is not for the faint of heart, the worldbuilding and action-packed storytelling of author Robert J. Power will be sure to suit readers who love grimdark fiction and fantasy with lashings of horror overtones. I for one adored the highly cinematic use of description and atmospheric language, bringing us into a dark and tragic world where our heroes are nothing like the traditional heroic figures of typical fantasy novels. I was also highly impressed by the originality of the new magic system in this world, which held together consistently and never felt overdone. Power has a vivid writing style that will keep you deep in the action, so if you’re prepared for a truly wicked ride into the shadier side of fantasy fiction, I’d recommend The Seven for your next fiction fix.
