The Save Your Planet Show is a quirky work of fiction in the science fiction, adventure, and drama sub-genres, and was penned by author John Klawitter. A unique premise with a really unusual set of central characters, this zany space-themed adventure begins in an old folks’ home in Southern California. When the smooth-talking and highly unusual DoubleSpin arrives and tells the residents he is from another part of the galaxy, tensions rise and suspicions abound. Threatened by destruction if they do not participate in the Save Your Planet game show, the ragtag group of unlikely heroes discover that there really is a plot afoot, just in time for their new alien ally to vanish and leave them fending for themselves with the fate of the earth on their shoulders.
Author John Klawitter has produced a highly entertaining work that I couldn’t stop reading from cover to cover. The Old Bunch is a lively set of characters with plenty of life experience and wisdom between them, and as such it makes for a really unique brand of chaos when they’re faced with alien life. I really enjoyed Lucy, and the narrative smacked of witticisms, an authentic voice, and lively descriptions, as though the central characters are involving you directly in their story. DoubleSpin is one slick customer with plenty of style, and a wickedness brewing underneath that will keep you guessing page after page. Overall, I would recommend The Save Your Planet Show to classic science fiction fans looking for a really fun romp with under-represented central characters.
