Wow. Just...wow. That's definitely what I thought when I finished reading The Perihelion, the new book by author D.M. Wozniak. Taking place in the year 2069, the story follows six main characters as they attempt to move their lives forward, even as the world around them seems to be falling apart. As the world deals with the ramifications of our own decisions, this group struggles to make lives for themselves. Just one of the story lines follows Aspen, a 99er, an entity created of 99% human DNA and 1% wasp, which is immune to the effects of radiation. She was created with a specific purpose in mind, but the 99er program has no idea what her true aim is. Each of the unique characters struggles with their own issues and aims, and each story moves the novel's story arc forward in such a unique way that readers will find themselves reading this book from start to finish with hardly a break for air.
I loved The Perihelion. Loved. It. I am a voracious reader, and science fiction is one of my preferred genres. That being said, it can certainly be a difficult task to find a great new read in science fiction that does not seem similar to a hundred other books I've already read. This is not the case with The Perihelion. Author D.M. Wozniak has done a fantastic job in creating characters and story lines that his readers will easily be able to connect with and relate to, not always an easy feat in a futuristic piece. This story is unique, has multiple major characters and viewpoints, and is simply a fantastic, engrossing read. I highly recommend this book to any reader who enjoys science fiction or simply a great read. I look forward to reading more from the extremely promising author D.M. Wozniak in the very near future. With his undeniable talent, I am certain that he will not remain undiscovered for long!
