The Lycan Princess & The Lethal Potions Wiz by Stina’s Pen is the fourth installment in the Coalescence of the Five series. It takes readers into the magical realm of Incanta which is full of political intrigue and academic life. Princess Reida is a Lycan studying at Thavma University when she crosses paths with Professor Theodore, a sharp-witted and mysterious wizard. During one of their first interactions, the scene is centered around a book that is glued upside-down. This interesting scene sets the tone for more playful and layered interactions in their relationship throughout the narrative. Readers are drawn into the world of Thavma where the foundation is laid for deeper conflicts, mischievous roommates, and rare magical creatures.
Stina’s Pen is a master at developing a narrative that balances character-driven moments with broader magical and political stakes. As Reida tries to find her own identity outside the shadows of her royal lineage, there’s a strong and interesting dynamic that unfolds between her and Professor Theodore. There is so much charm and tension between these two characters. The plot is seamless, fusing prophecy, magic, and romance, while creating moments of levity along with ominous hints. Supporting characters, such as Reida’s brother Ken and the ever-watchful Lycan Duke Greg, create a rich narrative. It helps to shape the story and bring together those magical elements and relatable familial bonds.
