The Little Seed by Adele Lamothe begins with a small seed that lies safely underground during winter, dreaming of soaring through the sky. When spring arrives, rain and warmth wake her, and she sheds her coat to begin growing. Her roots stretch into the soil for water and nutrients, while her leaves reach toward the sun to make food. As the days grow warmer, the little seed develops a bud that blossoms into a flower. Bees visit her for nectar, helping with pollination. Eventually, her flower turns into a white puffball filled with tiny seeds. A breeze lifts the seeds into the sky, scattering them across fields, forests, and mountains. The little seed’s journey comes full circle as new seeds settle into the ground, ready to grow, continuing the cycle of life. “I will soar just like them. I believe that!”
The Little Seed: An Inspiring Journey from Seed to Plant by Adele Lamothe is a beautifully crafted book with simple, rhythmic writing that carries readers gently through the seed’s transformation. The language is natural and easy to follow, making it a perfect choice for younger audiences. The illustrations by Steven Tu add a wonderful extra layer to the story, full of soft, rich details that match the warm tone of the text. I especially loved the shades of green, blue, and yellow used throughout, which harness the beauty of nature in really gorgeous and vibrant tones. Each page feels alive, and through both words and color, we see a subtle shift with the seasons that adds so much to the seed’s journey. Lamothe and Tu's thoughtful mix of storytelling and artwork makes this book not only informative but also a joy to experience, offering a quiet, meaningful look at growth, change, and hope. Recommended.
