"The Knitting Fairy: A Crabapple Yarns Mystery" by Jaime Marsman is a whimsical, funny mystery that any one who has ever knitted anything or thought about knitting anything or might want to try knitting will find a great book. We first meet Molly Stevenson at the local library where she works as an assistant librarian. When a woman (Molly immediately dubs her in her mind as Mother Goose) brings back a very, very long overdue book, Molly doesn’t want to charge her the large amount of late fees due and hides the book. This causes Molly a problem with Mrs. Goldmyer, the head librarian, who immediately fires her. While Molly is sitting under her favorite tree wondering what to do now, Mother Goose happens by and they begin talking. When Mother Goose, really known as Carolyn, hears what happened she immediately takes Molly under her wing and offers her a job at her store, Crabapple Yarns. Molly knows nothing about knitting but Caroline doesn’t care and gradually teaches her to love to knit. When strange things begin to happen suddenly to the group of knitters that spend a lot of time in the cozy knit shop, they jokingly decide there must be a knitting fairy messing around with their projects. Unfortunately, things quickly start to get scary with break-ins, kidnapping and threatening phone calls and it becomes up to Molly and her new friends to follow the crooked path and find the answers and the very real knitting fairy.
Jaime Marsman has written a delightful, funny mystery. All knitters will enjoy reading this and all non-knitters will suddenly find themselves heading to the nearest yarn store for instructions. This book had me instantly hooked from the dedication page to the final surprise ending. It grabbed and kept my attention to the very last page with warm and fuzzy characters and some that I was not too fond of. I read this book really fast and was sorry to see it end. I am looking forward to reading more of Jamie Marsman.
