Award-winning author J.G. MacLeod has always been an avid reader and writer. As a child, she was drawn to putting pen to paper so that she could record the people and places she would create inside her mind. As a young adult, she earned a university degree in Honors English and history due to her keen interest in nineteenth-century studies.
Ms. MacLeod then went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Education and has spent the past sixteen years teaching. She taught creative writing, English and social science for most of those years, but she has also spent time as a guidance counsellor and working with students with developmental disabilities. She loves encouraging students to find their own voices through writing and believes that every single person has a story to tell.

Future Bride: A MacLeod Time-Travel Romcom by J.G. MacLeod takes us back in time to the Isle of Skye sometime in the Middle Ages when Scottish men ruled the roost and the legendary battles between the clans were paramount. When Brigid MacDonald goes into the supply room of the coffee shop she works at in a small town in Canada, little does she realize when she comes out, she will be transported to a faraway island in the wilds of Scotland in a period totally unknown to herself. When she emerges from the room, she is in the MacDonald castle on Skye, getting prepared for a wedding to Tristan MacDonald. Brigid, a fiery redhead, is also a karate master and manages to make her escape from the intended marriage, fleeing into the wilds of Skye in the middle of the night, with Tristan MacDonald’s men chasing her. There, in her desperation, she runs into the taciturn, angry but incredibly handsome Ferghus, who initially holds her captive but is soon enamored by Brigid’s charms. Seeking to escape the vengeful Tristan, who is Ferghus’ sworn enemy, the two embark on a dangerous journey through the forests of Skye and back to Ferghus’ home. Torn between desire for the rugged Scotsman and anger at his belligerent and belittling attitude, Brigid seeks to adjust to a world so very different from the one she left behind.
Time travel novels are fun and Future Bride: A McLeod Time-Travel Romcom is definitely that. Author J.G. MacLeod has given us two incredibly detailed and well-drawn characters that both men and women will be able to identify. With Brigid such a “feisty” (Ferghus’ words) woman and Ferghus a man-mountain with a deep, compelling sense of loneliness and self-loathing over a scar that stretches from his temple all the way down to his ribcage, we have two characters that each have redeeming features and are loveable but who also have minds of their own and are, at times, both frankly annoying. This is a fantastic mix and makes for a fascinating and fun read. I liked that the author used Gaelic on a regular basis throughout the narrative, lending the story some real authenticity. The Gaelic was not overused and was a clever ploy to introduce doubt in Brigid’s mind when Ferghus wanted to say something he didn’t want Brigid to understand. The sexual tension between the pair was exceptionally high and maintained beautifully throughout the story by the author. The narrative simply flows and I also enjoyed the possible alternative ending. If I get a vote, I vote for the second ending which would set up a potentially incredibly funny sequel. This is a fantastic read and if you love your romance with a bit of humor, this will appeal to you immensely. I can highly recommend this read.
