A story that starts with a slow moving gel-like haze with a void underneath already creates the kind of excitement and mysterious atmosphere that prompts the reader to hope something sinister could happen any moment soon. And it does happen! In Richard Parnes’ The Death Maze, Book 2: The Other Side, the second book in The Death Maze Series, a conscientious scientist, Dan Adams, reclaims his inner freedom from a cunning, manipulative monster, Apep, who has had a destructive hold on his mind, and sets out to explore realms of knowledge within himself through meditation. Apep, always greedy for power and human worship, has lost the one thing that could restore his powers and establish him as the sole master of the universe. Only one way can lead him back to it: finding the portal to the sixth dimension, the only access point to a sphere of energy that can allow him to reclaim power and total control over the humans. Will the friends of the scientist working on his project find the portal before the evil Apep and will they be able to control its power or be destroyed by it?
The Death Maze, Book 2: The Other Side by Richard Parnes is a masterful blend of science and fantasy, one that will plunge readers into a world that is as mysterious as it seems real. When I finished reading this book, it felt like I had been in a dream adventure whose memories will live with me for a very long, long time. Richard Parnes has successfully created characters that will stay with readers for as long as memory; the prose is exquisite, the characters well-sculpted and compelling, the plot spellbinding, and the read pure delight! It’s a book that will appeal to lovers of science fiction and fantasy, and everyone looking for an exciting read. A beautifully written story. I loved it.
