The Boy Who Lost His Flame by Silvia Marsz revolves around the story of Tim, who lives in a little hut on the edge of the woods. Tim lives alone in the hut as his parents died not so long ago. One morning, Tim went into the woods to look for mushrooms and berries. He takes two woven baskets along with him to hold the berries and mushrooms, and he goes deep into the wood. Tim loses track of the time and by the time he reaches home the fire in the fireplace has gone out. At night he dreams about his little flame and in the morning Tim decides to go in search of his little flame. The bluebird at his window takes him to the city, but then Tim is not sure whether the bluebird has taken him there to find his flame or Alina.
The bright and colorful paintings in the book give life to the characters and the scenes, making them come alive for young readers. All the characters are simple and tangible, and readers can connect well with them. It's a good bedtime storybook and can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Tim's character has been well portrayed, making him memorable. The story has a good concept and readers will wonder if Tim meeting Alina will put an end to all his worries, sorrows, and loneliness. The open ending to the story will make readers look forward to the next part.
