The Bloodless by Andrew Gibson is a highly imaginative, futuristic science fiction novel set in 2100, a period in which science reaches the peak of its development and a time when the dead can be recalled from beyond the grave. Having discovered the secret of resurrection, Daniel Justice, an acclaimed geneticist working for one of the big names in biotechnology, thought the discovery would open a whole new way of looking at life, but he is wrong. The resurrection brings back a species that soon becomes a threatening force, capable of extinguishing humanity. Having lost his own family to the “revenants,” Daniel Justice has to find a way to stop the zombies and he has to do it fast before the world witnesses a new kind of carnage. Will he and his small group find a way before time runs out on them?
In The Bloodless, Andrew Gibson establishes himself as a master storyteller, weaving a yarn that will keep readers spellbound. The pace is fast, even faster than any reader’s heartbeat, and the plot is sprinkled with sudden and unexpected twists that veer into directions readers are yet to learn. The characters are well-crafted, compelling, and convincing enough to be in a far off future time. The prose is gorgeous and rings through the ears like music. Told in the first person narrative, the story comes off the page with a powerful force, drawing readers in even more forcefully. It is, indeed, a very entertaining read and a book I highly recommend to fans of sci-fi.
