Teach Me To Love by Kari Trumbo is a quick read, but that simply means this is a concentrated love story. Isabelle had just buried her verbally abusive husband and was unsure where she could stay. Her parents had loved Harland and would not hear of her accusations against him so she knew she would have to find somewhere else to go. Lula was her only friend, so this was the sole option left to her. Conrad was facing his own demons. He had never learned to read and his employee was taking advantage of him, but he couldn’t even defend himself without confessing his failure. Could he swallow his pride about his lack of education and could she learn to accept herself enough to love another man? Just as someone threatens his life, she receives a bigger threat to their budding relationship.
Kari Trumbo's decisive writing gives this dialogue a realistic feel in a historical setting. Teach Me To Love is an intense read which will keep you entertained for a couple hours. The charisma between the characters allows the reader to grow with them. I love how the author slowly peels away the layers of abuse as Isabelle learns to overcome her feelings of uselessness. This story is charming with great characters that learn to trust each other and themselves. I enjoyed this novella and would recommend it to those who love historical romance. The author has several other books in the romance genre that readers would enjoy.
