Stormy Weather by Annie Miller is a beautiful romance with strong characters. Abandoned at birth and raised by adoptive parents, Abbey had a difficult start, a childhood that began when she was found at the fire station. But she fought on and went to law school. A workaholic, she cares more about her work than anything else, but that is until she meets Michael. Her attraction for him is instantaneous and, deep down, she knows he wants him. The wonderful thing about it is that Michael feels the same about her. “She was a vision. I could not stop looking at her. From my position upstairs, I could see her from head to toe—right down to the stilettoes that gave me a peek at her purple toe nails.” While the attraction between the two is very strong, are they ready for a life together? When Abbey’s demons begin to haunt her, can she find the strength to stand with the man she loves?

Annie Miller has written an engaging romance that captures the reality of life and explores the depths of the hearts of the characters. Abbey is one of my favorite characters. She is flawed and genuinely human. The sheer fact that she was abandoned at birth and raised by adoptive parents creates a powerful premise for a psychological conflict and this incident reflects a lot in her life. Stormy Weather is told in an engrossing first person narrative, alternating between Michael and Abbey, and this allows the points of view to come out neatly. It is an interesting read, spiced with suspense.
