In the capital city of Tolvade in the country of Aeristria and the world of Raen, hellhounds are running loose in the tunnels beneath the witches' academy, and a witch resolves to find them in the sensational urban fantasy, Spellbound and Hellhounds (Coven Chronicles Book 1) by Nia Rose. The Coven sends third-year Hunter Vanessa and her pet demon ogre Bobo to investigate an explosion at the Runewright Academy of Wizardry and Arcane. A blizzard is brewing, and worrying hellhounds will escape during the storm, Vanessa ignores the Coven's warnings and returns to the school. Regrettably, things are worse than she imagined, and she and Bobo find more than they expected. Can they escape the monsters lurking beneath the city? Or has Vanessa's good luck finally run out?
Spellbound and Hellhounds (Coven Chronicles Book 1) by Nia Rose is an enthralling young adult urban fantasy. Brilliantly written, the story has a riveting plot and a breathtaking story arc that ends in a suspenseful cliffhanger. The ingeniously crafted story world hooked me from the very beginning. Charming and endearing, the main characters have genuinely natural behavior, making it hard not to fall in love with them. Bobo and Lix are the perfect contrasts to the terrifying and tense scenes and are both lovable comic relief characters. The narrator, Alex Goodman, does a spectacular job of portraying the characters. I haven't enjoyed a narrator this much since Jim Dale's depiction of Harry Potter. I absolutely adore his portrayal of the gremlins in the coffee shop; it added reality to the story world while tickling my funny bone. Mr. Goodman's excellent narrating skills gave life and depth to each character and made the story come to life. This sensational story is a phenomenal beginning for a series. I am now a fan, and I can't wait to experience Vanessa and Bobo's next adventure!
