Sammy Snowflake And the Fraidyflakes by Crystaline Rose is a magical story with settings in a beautiful town on a cloud floating by. In Cloudtown where the Fraidyflakes lived, every now and then a snowflake will drift by and disappear and some of them dropped. It was too much for these flakes to take till Sammy Snowflake came on the scene. He was full of life and he encouraged the other flakes to come out, laugh, and shout. He did not want them to miss out on all the fun outside. The other flakes could see the fun they were missing from behind the windows. Finally a town meeting was called and every flake was invited. Will the Fraidyflakes come out and start enjoying life? Will they find beauty in the moment?
The story conveys lovely messages to readers; taking each day as it unfolds and enjoying it to the fullest. It will also help children let go of the fears hindering them in moving forward in life, and conquering those fears. The author’s whimsical and enchanting approach to the topic through the story of snowflakes will keep young readers enthralled. The illustrations are wonderful and they make the concept, scenes, and snowflakes endearing. I like the way the author has given an identity to the snowflakes by giving them names and through the pictures. The messages make this book a must-read for children, either at home or in classrooms because the fears faced by the snowflakes are real and relatable. It is a story of embracing the moment, courage, building self-confidence, faith, trust, and hope, and these themes have been woven beautifully through the story.
