Formed in Silence by Matt Schmuker recounts his transformative journey from depression and exhaustion, while his Christian life was on the verge of collapse. At age eleven, Matt was a good kid at home, but adopted a different personality against his professed Christian standards outside the home just to blend in with the cool crowd. However, his first impactful encounter began after surrendering to Jesus while in his 1989 Ford Taurus, after discovering what had happened to his friend Jason. In a bid to rid himself of horrible thoughts, the shift to silence marked a turning point in Matt's life. A series of transformative encounters has helped Matt know God and increased his capacity to notice God’s presence and voice.
I was deeply moved while reading Matt's journey, as I could relate to so many of his encounters. Matt proves himself to be an exceptional writer and storyteller through this book. His writing has a natural pace and is easy to comprehend. Every aspect of Matt's journey was well-connected and provided ample details, which I found delightful. I loved the biblical references included at the right spot in the writing. I found them helpful as I read through them in the Bible. This book contains morally sound themes on the need for believers to seek the voice of God and the various things believers will encounter during their walk with God. I recommend Formed in Silence by Matt Schmuker not only for non-believers but also for believers who seek to deepen their relationship with God.
