Princess Emily has a very itchy problem. Anyone with severe allergies will certainly relate to her problem. It’s a problem that affects her happiness. You see, the princess loves flowers and the beautiful gardens around the castle. But the flowers give her a terrible itch and the only way she can avoid this itch is to stay inside the castle, away from the gardens. She can only look out of the castle windows at the beautiful flowers. No one is allowed to bring flowers into the castle.
Her brother, Prince Erich, is worried about his sister. He knows how much she loves the gardens. He is determined to find a way to help his sister enjoy the gardens and to handle the flowers without getting the terrible itch. The prince hears a rumor about a rare blue fish with whiskers that have a magical power to heal. Believing this to be the solution, the prince ventures out to capture the fish. With help along the way from people who care about the princess’s plight, will the prince be able to find a cure?
Maureen Himler has written a delightful children’s fantasy story. Princess Emily and the Terrible Itch will entertain young readers. And Emily Himler, the young artist who illustrated this book, is to be commended for her very thoughtful and colorful pictures. The story speaks of compassion and sibling love which, in itself, is a valuable lesson for us all. A pleasure to read; a treasure to share with readers of all ages.
