Eternium by Kevin Cox is the fifth book in the Bewilderness series. Ambrielle must join forces with a surprising team when she is pushed into another adventure where the fate of the universe rests on her shoulders. All she has to work with is a cryptic order given to her by Neristara and a team that she is not sure she can trust. She quickly learns that her companions hold secrets of their own which could potentially change everything she knows. As a threat looms over the universe, threatening to swallow it whole, she and her team work to uncover the secret to closing the rifts before it’s too late. The story has an interesting opening that propels you directly into the action and sets a fast-paced tone that remains constant throughout Ambrielle's and the others’ journey. This is a fun way to jump back into this world and re-engage with the various characters as it serves as a nice refresher for the magic and the aesthetic of the world.

Energy is a key concept used in the world and is a core feature of the well-written fight scenes. This is also a key objective of what threatens the world as the energy is being drained from it, which puts everyone and everything at risk. The plot works quickly to regain readers' interest, picking up from the previous novels. Ambrielle has come a long way since her journey began so there’s a subtle element of reflection as she thinks back to the worlds and people she has saved. This is a reminder of how far she has come. The world Kevin Cox has created is incredible, coming to life through intricate details that draw you into the action, magic, and adventure. Each element plays a part; whether it’s a shadowstone or the Hollow, each is a necessary part of making this world what it is. This high fantasy is pure escapism. The writing is lovely with phrases that capture the beauty as well as the danger around the characters and is a reminder of how breathtaking fantasy can be when the world is well-crafted. The atmosphere of the world feels reminiscent of classic tales such as in Arthurian lore with quests and heroes. This is particularly felt with Gavian who is fighting different obstacles, such as a relentless influence, and does so in a way similar to classic heroes. Eternium is a wonderful foray back into the story as Ambrielle and an assortment of delightful characters embark on a journey filled with twists, magic, and danger to save the world.

Having gained control of her growing power and a better understanding of her true purpose, Malidora allies herself with Ambrielle, Gavian, and some other brave young leaders to fight the Gaith and reclaim their home worlds. She comes up with a bold plan to eliminate the apex Nyalith and, by extension, seal the rifts the Nulvarians utilize to cross between worlds once and for all. But to achieve this, they must be prepared to work together as a team. There is nowhere else to turn as the young heroes make their final stand, knowing full well that failure will only lead to certain death in Kevin Cox's Eternium.

Kevin Cox's Bewilderness series ends in a gripping finale in this fifth and final book. The conflict between the forces of good and evil in Cox's plot has hazy boundaries between the opposing sides. What at first glance appears to be an oversight is a masterfully designed ruse by Cox to draw readers into this intricate journey by having them first discover the backstories of each character to understand their motivations. The dialogue is easy to follow and flows naturally. The adventure picks up where the previous book left off, demonstrating an impressive level of continuity between installments. The most notable feature of Cox's storytelling is the poetic aura he incorporates into his writing, giving Eternium a distinctive feel. To provide context for the group's formation and the past actions of the antagonists, including Razinoth and the Nulverians, Cox makes a few nuanced allusions to previous books in the series. Epic fantasy fans can expect a unique read thanks to Cox's meticulous world-building and distinctive storytelling style.

Eternium: Bewilderness Book Five by Kevin Cox is an action-packed fantasy novel in which a group of heroes battles the darkness that threatens to overcome all realms and worlds in the universe. After finding the elusive Neristara, Malidora and Ambrielle are sent to Averess. Gavian, who wields the powerful sword Azravion, and the others gather amplifying crystals to thwart the plans of the Gaith, the evil shadow entities who have already claimed entire worlds. Along their path of treacherous adventure, the heroes team up with others to complete their quest, including the goddess Hableides. This supremely intelligent being seeks light from her followers and our heroes to fight the darkness and continue a dim glow to ensure the continuation of her world. The heroes wield powerful energy weapons and must restore light energy to conquer the darkness.

Eternium showcases an excellent blend of otherworldly fantasy elements and daring action. It starts with an exciting battle, and throughout the action, the scenes are very well portrayed and detailed. This made me feel excitingly close to the events and more immersed in the dynamic storyline. The different species of humanoid and other creatures are well depicted and set apart from each other, and the landscapes and scenery are often described poetically, a tribute to Kevin Cox's exquisite writing technique. The fantasy elements and unique world-building created a surreal environment in which I felt deeply immersed as if I were there alongside the story's heroes. Eternium is a thrilling adventure for genre fans, with spellbinding fantasy and action to match.
