In Peke-A-Boo! Find My Sister Too by Wendy Zambrana we are introduced to two Pekingese puppies named Samantha and Sophie. In this book, Samantha is the main character whose favorite toy is a bright blue ball that she loves to take everywhere. Unfortunately, Sophie likes the ball as well and will often snatch it and hide it from her. We journey with Sam to find her sister and more than likely her favorite ball that just so happened to be missing as well. Samantha looks for Sophie through both the yard and the house, but her big sister is just too good at hiding. After searching for her sister and the ball in vain, Sam goes to sleep for the night knowing that’s when her sister would come out of her hiding place to lie down with her.
I’m such a huge dog lover so, of course, I found this book a delight with two of the cutest dogs I have ever seen. I also love how they have human names such as Samantha and Sophie. It’s not easy growing up with a sibling that doesn’t respect your boundaries like the way Sophie always is taking Sam’s ball. What I like is that Samantha doesn’t have a negative reaction to it and instead makes it into a game of trying to find her sister and the ball. Kids will love this adventure and it is interactive in that on each page you have the opportunity to find where Sophie is hiding, much like Where’s Waldo. The illustrations are beautifully done and they fit perfectly with the storyline. Wendy Zambrana has done a wonderful job with Peke-A-Boo! Find My Sister Too and basing this tale on her two adorable dogs just makes me happy. I can’t wait to see what Zambrana comes up with next!
