Out of Time by C.M. Saunders is an unbelievably good book. The story takes place in 2014 and is about Joe Dawson, a stressed out, lonely, struggling author. Joe decides that a short vacation to a seaside hotel would make everything better. Joe checks into a small hotel (one his mother spoke about going to as a young girl) in Rhyl, North Wales, and here is where we meet the real Joe. He shares with us his feelings, memories, thoughts and fears and becomes someone we think we know and understand. Each day Joe wakes and finds himself taken back in time. He is taken to very special days in 1973, 1982 and 1964, though he doesn’t realize it at the time. The discovery of why and how the time travel is happening is the climax of this story.
It is so hard to keep the totally unexpected ending of Out of Time to myself, but I don’t want to spill the beans. Out of Time offers so much in its 91 pages that I was not able to put it down until I reached the very surprising ending. As I read the story, there was never a time that I figured out where each twist and turn would lead. These twists and turns will keep you reading until the very last twirl. I never saw where it was going but loved how it got there. C.M. Saunders has written a top notch hit. I cannot say enough about this book and highly recommend it. For those of us old enough to remember the great Rod Sterling and his Twilight Zone, C.M. Saunders should soon have his own show. A five star book not to be missed.
