Meet Ollie, the smallest of all woodchucks, in the story Ollie and The Wishing Stone by Toni J. Perri. He had two big front teeth and he loved listening to stories. His favorite story was about a Thousand Year Old Tree and a Magical Wishing Stone that was hidden inside. It was believed that whoever found the stone would be granted one wish. Ollie always dreamed of finding the wishing stone and he kept wondering what he would wish for if he found it. Ollie's friends always made fun of him but that did not deter him from following his dreams. When Ollie grew up, he went out in search of the Thousand Year Old Tree and the Magical Wishing Stone that was hidden inside it. As he goes through the Moonstar Forest in his search, Ollie comes across some interesting characters and experiences. Will Ollie be able to find the Magical Wishing Stone?
This is a beautiful story that highlights the importance of kindness in a very adorable way. The illustrations are vibrant and David K. Ridgeway captivates young readers with his colorful illustrations and breathes life into the story and characters, giving the plot a good pace and movement. It is a wonderful story for bedtime storytelling and reading aloud and storytelling sessions in classrooms as it will encourage children to overcome all odds, like Ollie, and follow their dreams. The story is fun and interactive with many small details that should not be missed out while reading it. The hidden animals and treasures are there on every page, which will keep young readers interested and glued to the story until the very end.
