Nobody’s Mulligan is a work of fiction penned by author Brian Holt, which focuses on the theme of Christian faith and of the apocalyptic potential consequences of not adhering to it. Margaret Sullivan is our protagonist, a woman whose power lies not in taking up arms, but in her strength of character and position of faith. So when she finds herself in a town which has lost its way, and one which becomes the epicenter of a quite literal Hell on Earth situation, the price to be paid for the transgressors around her is heavy indeed. What results is an interesting exploration of Christian doctrines and a message of adherence to one’s faith from the author.
The devout are sure to really enjoy this topical and thought-provoking read, but there’s also plenty of meat on the bones of the story for fans of thriller fiction, small-town drama and family saga readers. The interpersonal development between the town’s cast of characters is very well achieved, making it feel as though we know and recognize these types of people in our own lives all the time. Author Brian Holt also delivers some really stellar dialogue that serves to deepen characterization and move the plot forward well, blending with an easy to read narrative style. Despite the apocalyptic themes, the read is clean and free of explicit content and is therefore accessible to readers of all sensitivities. Overall, Nobody’s Mulligan is a well-presented and well-plotted vision of the future from a strong standpoint of faith.
