Murder to Scale by Debra B. Schiff is a quirky murder mystery. Tom McCloud loves his model trains and he’s off to set up his part of the Christmas display. Instead, he stumbles over a body; friend and model train enthusiast Bill Murphy. With one of his model trains missing, it looks like Bill was the victim of a burglary that went horribly wrong but Tom thinks otherwise. The train that was stolen was a steam locomotive and Tom thinks the thief was another modeler, someone who knew exactly what the train was worth. Tom starts looking for clues, uncovering a wicked web of lies and secrets that hide beneath the face of a quiet town. Will he get to the truth in time or is he about to be the next victim?
Murder to Scale by Debra B. Schiff is a wonderful murder mystery. There is a lot of information in this story about the trains and how they work, showing that Ms. Schiff clearly knows her stuff, but to the untrained, it might seem a little overwhelming. The mystery itself was well thought out, with a clear plot and lots of twists and turns along the way. The writing was clear, the plot moved at a good pace and there was plenty of action to keep me reading, along with characters that were well developed and likable. I actually learned quite a bit about model railways and, whether you are interested in model railways or not, I can recommend this book as well worth reading.
