Motherhood Made ME Get Over MYSELF: A Metamorphosis is truly that. It's the story of one woman and the changes that she makes in her own mind, perception, and body as she progresses through life. Made all the more meaningful for being a true and autobiographical diary story, Amanda Grieme manages to both entertain and educate with her book. I found it a good and meaningful read that held my attention and interest despite being quite a lot more technical in nature than I had been led to believe.
Author Amanda Grieme speaks directly from her heart, and as a reader, you can just feel the sincerity, the empathy, and the struggle that her words express. The story sticks with you because of its stark reality, but also because of the few illustrations from Amanda Kunzman, which helped bring certain aspects of the book to life. The peculiar formatting of using a diary really made the story personal and almost forces you to relate to the narrator and deal with what she's dealing with.
I feel that the same book in a less skilled author's hands would fall flat, but Grieme possesses a singular kind of creativity that, when paired with her blunt transparency regarding her struggles, makes her human experiences as real and captivating as possible. Congrats, Amanda, for overcoming your disease and turning it into such a positive channel. Motherhood Made ME Get Over MYSELF: A Metamorphosis is a very accurate summary of dealing with a disorder and still living your life.
