Mother is a thriller drama by Hristina Bloomfield. Shortly after giving birth to her child, Maria, Theodora Ivanova (Thea) discovers that her family and the father of her daughter, Georgi, have conspired to sell Maria to an aging couple. Feeling devasted by their betrayal, Thea tries in vain to find her daughter and seeks help from her old teacher, Mrs. Mariola. However, a disappointing return home puts her once again into the clutches of her abusive family and Georgi. Meanwhile, Officer Koev of the Regional Police Department and a journalist named Bobby start helping Thea find her daughter, and it takes them to the Greek city of Kavala. But Thea soon realizes she must fight through the courts to reunite with her daughter. Will Thea be able to get her daughter back?
Mother is a heartbreaking tale that showcases the lengths to which a mother will go to protect her child. Hristina Bloomfield's thriller plays out like an absorbing sleuth mystery with a tragic story behind it that hooks you in from the first page and refuses to let go until the last. The plot twists and turns its way to a satisfying climax, and you find yourself constantly trying to guess what's going to happen next until the end. The characterization of Thea will break your heart. She is the kind of protagonist you want to cheer for, and as a reader, you hope she finds her happy ending. I liked her dynamic with Koev and felt the two make a sweet couple. All in all, this is a fantastic novel for thriller fans.
