Little Goldie Finch by Ted Schellhas is an adorable storybook for children where they are introduced to Little Goldie Finch, who was not like the rest of the family. While her brothers and sisters slept, Little Goldie Finch watched the other birds fly and dreamed of doing the same. She focused on her desire to fly like the others. Though she kept failing, that did not deter her from trying again and again. Her brothers teased her and laughed at her, and her sisters thought she was strange. Little Goldie Finch never doubted herself. She kept practicing and she was confident about achieving the goals she had set for herself. The book speaks about focus, dreams, perseverance, and success, and encourages readers to never give up on their dreams.

The story is uplifting, encouraging, and will motivate children to pursue their dreams and be focused on what they want. The illustrations are charming and lively and they breathe life into the scenes and characters, and give a good pace and movement to the story. It’s a good bedtime storybook and can also be used for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Goldie Finch and her determination to succeed, despite the many setbacks, will inspire readers to chase their dreams without giving up and getting disappointed. Storybooks such as these enable young readers to understand the concept and the message easily when narrated with the help of a story and illustrations.
