Last Call at Coconuts is a work of fiction in the women’s fiction and contemporary romance subgenres and is the sixth book in the Coconuts series penned by author Beth Carter. It is intended for the adult reading audience and contains some strong language and mild, closed-door sexual content. In this final novel, which can also be read as a standalone thanks to its expert craftsmanship, we follow the lives of our four central protagonists when the fate of their favorite bar, Coconuts, hangs in the balance. Threatening to morph into a corporate clone sports bar, it’s up to our intrepid women to face off against its sexy new owner and see if there’s a heart behind his cool façade.
Having read several works from the Coconuts series before, I always enjoy slipping back into author Beth Carter’s easy, confident writing style and enjoying such natural dialogue and believable friendships. This sixth and final installment to the series was no exception, and I felt excited by the prospect of one last drama for the foursome of friends to face, but also deeply satisfied with the place that the novel finds them all at in their lives. It was very enjoyable to see that the central peril in this grand finale came from a place of shared nostalgia and love for Coconuts itself, which is a parallel with how readers will surely feel in having to let the series go! Overall, Last Call at Coconuts is a must-read for fans of the existing series, and I’d highly recommend Beth Carter to women’s fiction fans everywhere.
