Adina and Bonzo make a good sleuthing pair. Bonzo is Adina’s dog, a rescue no one else wanted, from the Cutie Pie Dog Rescue Center where Adina volunteered. Besides volunteering, Adina works as a researcher and, when she’s not helping at the shelter, walking her dog, or dating her detective boyfriend, Adina snoops. Well, rather, she’s an amateur sleuth with a knack for getting people to talk about things they wouldn’t consider sharing with the police. And, with this kind of intel, Adina is a good asset to the local police, even if they really don’t want her snooping around and doing their job. And why is Bonzo her good sleuthing partner? It was Bonzo that alerted Adina in the middle of the night to a crime in progress. Not that she was able to see anything at the time and not that it made sense until much later. But Adina’s not the only sleuth in the neighborhood. There’s a retired cop who likes to keep an eye on things. Adina, with her ability to make people open up to her, makes an easy friend of the retired cop, and the two combine their sleuthing talents to build an exciting plot of what if’s.
The cast of characters in Cassidy Salem’s mystery novel, Killer Reputation: Adina Donati, Accidental Sleuth Book 3, is as complex and unexpected as one would find in any neighborhood. There is the womanizer, the retired cop, the three working girls who share a house (Adina and her roomies). And then there are the co-workers and boyfriends (good and bad). The characters themselves formulate a compelling plot and the reader almost expects to read the entire complex life story of each and every one. But there is a murder to solve and the plot thickens as politics and deceit interweave to make everyone look a little guilty. This is a compelling cozy mystery for fans of the genre. And who can resist a good dog story?
