In Kill Romeo by Andrew Diamond, Detective Freddy Ferguson is in Nelson County, VA, doing a background check on Ken Harper, who is a candidate for governor. While looking for Mrs. Jackson’s dog, he came across a dead woman all dressed in white. Everything was clean, suggesting she was carried there. He tried to move the body to higher ground when the beaver dam wall broke, but the woman’s body washed away. Freddy found a little brass key big enough to open a padlock or gym locker. The key was imprinted with a black seahorse with the number 212. Mrs. Jackson made a deal with Freddy. If she finds one lead, he must investigate the woman’s death. She arranged a meeting between Freddy and Sheriff Earl Kessler at the Olympic Inn at 2.00 pm in Afton. They discovered that the woman’s name was Rachel; she went for a walk and was never seen again.
I enjoyed reading Kill Romeo by Andrew Diamond; it is very interesting and well written. The story had many underlying themes, which came together naturally. The main characters were well developed and skillfully handled. My favorite character was Claire; she is intelligent and very good at her job. She could handle herself in any situation. Freddy could not decide if he wanted to work with her and always said the wrong things to her, which made some situations awkward. Kill Romeo is fast-paced and full of action; there was never a dull moment. I kept turning the pages to find out what will happen next. The story exceeded my expectations and was more than I expected. I would recommend it to crime and murder mystery lovers.
