Instant Confidence: How to be Confident Instantly! by The Instant-Series was an enjoyable read. The author explains and defines confidence, most interestingly, as not taking yourself too seriously. It reminds me of the first time I had to get up in front of my whole company, about 50 or 75 people at that time, and make some announcements, or when I finally got used to working with executives (important since I was an executive assistant) and realized “they’re all just people.” Who cares if you’re not a supermodel! Who cares if you misspeak and say something wrong! No one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes. How you handle yourself when it happens is key. If you can laugh at yourself--not taking yourself too seriously--you are learning confidence.
Instant-Series gives exercises to practice building confidence and they make sense to me. If someone were to practice them, I think they would help. Lack of confidence is often caused by fear or doubt in oneself, or fear of judgment by others. I used to feel very shy and timid, especially in high school speech class. High school is a very difficult time for shy people and these techniques could actually be the key to help someone succeed in life. Seriously, if they were too shy to talk, give presentations, or interview for a great job, how far would someone go in life? Learning how to converse with others in any situation is very important too and Instant Confidence includes tips for that. No matter how your fear or insecurity manifests itself, you can find help in Instant Confidence.
