Pearl's Life (Pearl Books #2) by Tuula Pere is a book about family. Jacob is a big brother to Pearl, and he loves being exactly that. Jacob doesn’t care that his sister has physical limitations, or that she has to go to the doctor so very often. He wants to be there by her side every day, helping out, even if that only means he can stroke her hair and comfort her. Jacob’s heart is extra big. No matter what comes along, he wants to be the very best big brother in the entire world. This book pulled on my heartstrings. So many times it shows great love and selflessness in ways most adults can only dream about. Time after time he demonstrates kindness when it is needed.
This is the best book about how to be a great sibling to a brother or sister with special needs. We see pure love in its finest form as Jacob goes to great lengths to include Pearl in everything with family and friends. He wants to introduce Pearl to his peers at school, and we see great examples of friendship and acceptance. It doesn’t bother Jacob that Pearl has bad days, or that he doesn’t have money to buy her something on her birthday. He perseveres, finding something that reflects his inner self to give her. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this book. If you have a child with special needs in your family or know someone who does, this book will inspire you. Pearl's Life (Pearl Books #2) by Tuula Pere is most highly recommended.
