Set in a futuristic society, Her Gilded Voice by K.C. Aegis is the story of a young girl whose life is on the verge of unexpected change. Lacey Clarke, the young protagonist, lives in a world where each citizen has a fully integrated neurological implant wired into their brain. This sophisticated tech, 'voyce', can affect what its user thinks, says, and does. It was created to 'protect' each user from external disorder and unforeseen harm to themselves and others. Lacey and her sister, Yadira, both live meager existences. Life takes a surprising turn when they are asked to pay off their father's debts. Lacey is required to participate in a competition called the Puzzling because they lack the necessary funds to clear their father's financial obligations. An encounter with the enigmatic Ogden Oliver results in Lacey temporarily deactivating her voyce, giving her control over her thoughts. Will she reclaim total sovereignty over her life?
Her Gilded Voice by K.C. Aegis is an intriguing sci-fi, dystopian novel flawlessly blended with thriller elements. It showcases themes like self-identity, individuality, coming-of-age moments, resilience, freedom, self-preservation, and courage. Each character is expertly designed, especially Lacey, her sister, Yadira, their friend, Cadence, and Ogden. They all have fully actualized personas, adding nuance and intrigue to the plot.
