Inlightenment: Helping You Shift Your Thoughts and Actions to a Place of Positivity, Transformation, and Continuous Growth by Marshall Cannon is a non-fiction motivational and self-help book on improving and bettering our quality of life with a different mindset. This book is written in a style of short proverbs and sayings, and a brief explanations on each of them. Thus, each chapter heading is a short proverb or motivational message and the chapters elaborate on the topics in a few pages. Marshall incorporates a lot of personal anecdotes and his own life experiences in drawing out the meanings of each of these messages and how they can be applied in life. The latter part of the book also contains a New Beginning Assessment Guide that provides guidance on how to track progress on a quarterly and regular basis and tips and techniques.
I enjoyed reading Inlightenment and found it to be quite sincere and genuine in its attempt to help people develop a better and more positive mindset. The concept is that when you change the internal, then the external automatically takes care of itself, and hence the focus on the self and one’s own mind. In that sense, the book touches on some spiritual themes, but it is mainly a book for anyone to read and get inspired by and just make a shift in their mindset and perspective. Marshall writes in an authentic voice and provides plenty of real life examples which I liked. This is a great read for anyone.
