Self-Regulation is the ability to manage emotions, thoughts, and behavior. To have this control, children need to develop their emotional intelligence. To learn more about this, read I'm Just a Kid: A Social-Emotional Book about Self-Regulation. The story is about Ben, a boy who loves to play with all kinds of puzzles, and solving them makes him feel proud of himself. However, when he can't find the last piece of the puzzle, he feels frustrated and wants to scream. His mother comes over and tries to calm him down. Lovingly, she suggests that he thinks about things that soothe him. In this way, the child describes what makes him feel better until he regains control of his emotions. Chandele Morris shares a story that will teach children about emotions and talking openly about the topic.
I'm Just a Kid is a good choice for children to learn how to control and calm their impulses. The story shows them how by using the example of a common situation, so they will be able to identify with it. Ben is a child with strong emotions. He is also intelligent and learns to be in control. This story will teach children to use the techniques that they have learned to calm down when something bothers them. Chandele Morris provides advice that is helpful to parents and teachers. Self-regulation skills are indispensable for all children and by reading this book they will take a big step toward strengthening their social skills.
