How To Be Owned By A 2nd Cat: Simple Action Plan For Cat Owners Who Are Thinking of Getting A Second Cat by Kate C. is a straightforward guide written from first-hand experience. When her first cat’s former fosterer called and asked Kate whether she could adopt a calico kitten, Kate needed little convincing. Armed with a carrier, she brought home the little kitten and named her Julia. Despite showing signs of loneliness earlier, her first cat, Theodore, was not amused by the new arrival. He was instantly alarmed but soon got on with his business while keeping an eye on the intruder. Kate explains how she introduced the two cats and what to look out for before and during the process.
I loved that the information in How To Be Owned By A 2nd Cat is presented in a direct way. The content is brief but concise, packed full of practical tips such as how to tell whether your cat is lonely and how to safely introduce the second cat. I also liked that the book is written from a personal, first-hand perspective. It was captivating to read about Theodore’s reaction and how the two cats got along over time. The cats are present within the guide through colored, vivid photographs. Both cats also have distinct personalities which make their story even more engaging. From Julia’s compelling point of view, we learn about her and her arrival in the prologue. Kate C’s guide, How To Be Owned By A 2nd Cat, is a succinct and useful resource for cat owners thinking about bringing a second cat home.
