When high school teacher Mitch Baden is summoned to the principal’s office, his imagination kicks into super active. As far as he knew he had done nothing wrong, but paranoia is a common trend in the actions of educators, especially being the girls’ reluctant soccer coach. Had he been sixteen, the sight of Sandy Walters' magnificent bare breasts would have thrilled him. As a middle-aged man, accidentally catching his student half-dressed was NOT a good thing. Instead of being hauled over the coals for ogling a teenage girl, Mitch’s transgressions had nothing to do with the present and had everything to do with that fateful night twenty-five years before. The night Mitch lost his virginity to Diana Dorn, freedom activist and summer of love enthusiast.
Hot Pursuit in Paradise by D.N. Bedeker is an entertaining story of twists and turns and unexpected character connections that keep the reader riveted to the pages. As Mitch Baden is forced to leave a relatively comfortable life, he unknowingly becomes the focus of a plethora of individuals trying to recapture the fortune loosely associated with prison escapee Diana Dorn. Bedeker is a master at page-turning events that ironically weave this large cast of characters into one giant force of both amateur and professional detectives. Bedeker’s language and use of literary elements combine to create a solid and often amusing mystery. While the main character is seemingly unaware of his involvement in what materializes as a multi-million dollar heist, his past actions culminate in a life-altering future. Hot Pursuit kept me turning the pages in anticipation of the next surprising plot event. Kudos to D.N. Bedeker on this well-executed tale!
