In an exciting, fast-paced thrill ride of a book, Hard Fall, the first book in the Thomas Blume Noir series by author P.T. Reade, the reader is introduced to the highly intriguing Thomas Blume. An ex-police officer from the NYPD, who now works on his own as a private investigator in London, Blume brings his gritty style of detective work to sophisticated England. But the classy parts of London are not exactly where Blume finds himself. Instead, his work is focused on the seedy side of town. The unsolved murders of his wife and son are obviously deeply personal and important to this intense and complicated man.
In a definitely great opener for what promises to be a fantastic new series, author P.T. Reade has developed a strong and dynamic lead character in detective Thomas Blume. This is a relatively short read, a novella really, and as such can be easily read in one sitting. The reader will be thankful for this, because once you pick this story up, you will not want to put it down. P.T. Reade is very skilled at writing succinct and complete stories in a very short span, yet leaves the reader desiring more from this exciting author. Hard Fall is a book that would be enjoyed by any reader who loves mysteries, detective stories, or who is looking for a great, quick read with a new and dynamic character. I am very much looking forward to the next installment in the Thomas Blume series, and I certainly hope that author P.T. Reade is hard at work on this as we speak.
