Haiku Dance by Cora J. Ramos is a story of young love torn apart that soon blossoms into full blown adult love after the two reunite. Young Miyoshi and Shino live as neighbors on Mount Takao where tea farmers were prevalent. They quickly become friends after Shino is sent to live with his grandfather, but they are torn apart after Shino is sent to live with his cousin to become a man and receive formal training as a Samurai. Both Miyoshi and Shino are heartbroken as they are separated and expected to start their new lives as adults, until they coincidentally meet again.
Since Miyoshi's father is important, she is expected to marry into the Royal Family to keep her safe. Before she agrees, she asks her father for one last request - to grieve for her mother properly on the mountain where she and Shino once lived. With great reluctance he grants her request and Shino is asked to accompany her back to the mountain to ensure no harm comes to her. During their adventure back to where it all started, they start their illicit love affair and they begin to wonder if they will ever be together.
I really enjoyed this novel. It was full of passion, excitement, suspense, and adventure as Miyoshi, plagued with sickness, is taken back to her home with her father. Shino is sent on a journey to keep him busy while Miyoshi is expected to wed Naichi, son of the emperor's brother. This story was full of suspense. I truly enjoyed reading this book and could imagine every single word and situation within the story. This story made me smile.
