Groupie: Volume 1 is a contemporary romance novel written by Susan Daugherty. Lexie had been decidedly unenthusiastic about going to the Jack Morgan concert she was currently suffering through. While she liked his early work well enough, his current music and the crazed women who swamped his concerts were a definite turn-off for her. She was only there because her roommate and best friend, Ashley, a big Morgan fan, had won the highly prized tickets and begged her to come along. The lights, constant shoving and close body contact, and the screaming of fans were a high price to pay for being loyal to a friend. Then Morgan began to play Angel Wings, one of her favorite songs ever, and all the chaos seemed to fade away. She couldn't help but close her eyes and sing along to those lyrics that she knew so well. And when she opened her eyes, as the last chords were played, she almost thought he was looking directly at her. His eyes were an electrifying sky-blue. She looked to either side of her to see just who he was actually looking at, but, as her eyes were drawn back to his, she could see he was also smiling at her.

Susan Daugherty's sweet contemporary romance, Groupie: Volume 1, follows what happens when a relatively sheltered young physical therapist, with little experience in the romance department, is assigned to travel with a country music star with a reputation for one-night stands and wild parties. As a physically active person who’s all-too-familiar with the inevitable sport-related injuries, I was fascinated by Lexie's professional skills and the methods she employs to ensure the injured Morgan heals properly. Daugherty's knowledge of the processes involved in physical therapy gave this aspect of the story an authentic and believable feel. Lexie's gradual adaptation to, and appreciation for, the unstructured lifestyle she becomes part of was also a pleasure to witness. And while the tension between the two who are simultaneously drawn towards and wary of each other becomes almost a bit too predictable at times, I enjoyed being a part of their world as I was reading this contemporary romance about touring with a musical band. Groupie: Volume 1 is highly recommended.

Groupie by Susan Daugherty is a contemporary romance story and is book one of a mini-series. Lexie Travis needs a new life, a fresh start. She needs to get away from her constantly fighting parents, from her miserable excuse for a love life, and from the thoughts of an injury that has changed her life. So, she moves to a new city with the hopes of putting it all behind her, but it doesn’t work. At least it doesn’t until she goes to a country music concert. She might love the music, but she can’t stand Jack, the singer. An accident puts Jack in the hospital and Lexie as his physical therapist, throwing them together. Lexie isn’t the type of woman to fall at his feet and Jack finds himself strangely drawn towards her. Jack is given the go-ahead to continue his tour, provided he takes his therapist with him, and so Lexie joins him on the road, traveling in his luxury coach. From there, a chain of events is set in motion that will change both their lives forever.

Groupie by Susan Daugherty was something very different. It was one of those stories that gripped me right from page one and kept me reading all the way through. The plot was very well thought out and, as well as a great story, Ms. Daugherty provided plenty of background about the characters, giving them substance. It was a fun story, one that tugged at the heart strings a little as the relationship developed between the two main characters, despite everything that seemed to be against it ever happening. This is an incredibly well-written book, with a story that has been designed to draw a reader in and hold their interest. I, for one, couldn’t put it down and I am looking forward to reading book 2.
