From Sea to Sea: River Plate to Lake Michigan by Nelda Bedford Gaydou is a wonderfully adventurous memoir that speaks about the author’s and her family’s exploits as they travel across the United States, Europe, and South America. This is the story of a couple who have dedicated their lives to the will of God wherever they are. The author shares her personal stories about the various cultures that joined together to create Argentina, and how her family is a mélange of diverse cultures. It is an inspiring story of faith, devotion, friendship, and love set against the backdrop of some fascinating places across the world. The author also introduces readers to some fascinating people who have made a difference in the lives of those around them.
The memoir is honest and straightforward and gives a peek into the author’s world which is a mixture of people, culture, and events, and will connect readers with God in a strong way. I like the way the author has knitted her story into her faith in God, which made a big difference in her life. She reiterates the power and presence of God in everybody’s lives and speaks about the power He gives everyone to face adversities and overcome them. There is humor and a lot of camaraderie in the memoir along with some dramatic events. The core concept in the memoir is fundamentally about having faith in Jesus and how serving the Lord, though not an easy task, can be rewarding.
