Eternal Rhythm is an aptly titled work of collected poetry. It caught my attention from the start and hooked me completely with Supernatural Girl. Eleanor Swift creates an irresistible rhythm with an eclectic and very clever mix of freestyle and traditional verse. The collection comprises forty-two short poems on various topics ranging from insights into the writer’s mind, with titles such as Puppets, Flights of Fancy, and Ghostly Room. There are gloriously different variations featuring the four seasons and stormy or sunny weather. Overall, Eternal Rhythm affirms Eleanor Swift as a poet with a talent for giving readers enjoyment even as she makes them stop and think. She achieves this primary motivation behind the writing, and reading, of poetry.
Eternal Rhythm by Eleanor Swift is a book for the bedside or anywhere a reader might have a quiet moment. It is not a coffee table book, for it demands too much attention to allow it to be glanced at casually by a guest awaiting a call to dinner. The exception, for me, would be to read it aloud. To quote just a tiny bit: “words can transcend time and miles”. This phrase found in Give Me A Voice begs to be heard. It is the same with The Meadow Oak, Undersea World, Winter, the title poem, Eternal Rhythm, and Dreams. I read Eternal Rhythm several times with increasing pleasure. There are metaphorical mountains to scale and depths to be plumbed. All poetry lovers will enjoy Eternal Rhythm by Eleanor Swift. It is a sparkling, star-studded sensation!
