Jennifer Slater is the author of “En Route Baby: What To Do When Baby Arrives Before Help Does.” In addition to speaking events and presentations, Jennifer teaches emergency childbirth procedures to private groups including law enforcement personnel and has been credited for introducing the concept of "being prepared for unusually fast childbirth." Originally from Chicago, Jennifer now lives in New Hampshire where she enjoys writing, traveling, and restoring older homes.

It’s a scary thing to think about: after all the months of preparation and planning for your newborn baby, to have everything go out the window when that baby says it’s coming fast and you end up delivering somewhere unexpected. En Route Baby is a crash course in what to do when the ultimate in unexpected occurs and you end up delivering far away from any hospitals or trained midwives. Jennifer Slater takes us through her personal experience of delivering early, as well as detailing common occurrences which can hint that you may experience an 'en route' delivery. The book describes basic medical procedures that you or a passenger or helper can do to make sure you have the safest delivery possible if the worst happens and you end up delivering in an elevator, plane, or car.
You would be AMAZED to find out how many 'en route' deliveries actually happen. Most of them occur in women who had a hard and long first labor, so they thought that their second would be just as long and waited a bit too late and had to do an emergency delivery. However, these births happen way more often than I would have known. I found the information in En Route Baby pretty helpful, but I can imagine that a pregnant woman reading this book might panic when considering an 'en route' delivery. I am glad that I’ve read this book before I have had any kids. This is good general knowledge to have for a 'just in case' scenario. Just as people prepare for tornadoes, or being snowed in during colder weather, women everywhere should be prepared for an emergency delivery of the most precious thing in the world to them.
