Do You Believe is it Real or Fiction? by Scott Chally starts out innocently enough. The main character is just a normal guy from Iowa who has a simple childhood, and then has a series of life events that culminate in him being diagnosed with a mental disorder. He begins to see strange truths in the Bible and believes that God is speaking directly to him. He doesn't know, however, if he is supposed to be the good guy in the story or the bad guy. Throughout the work, the narrator details the workings of his mind, for example citing biblical passages and strings of numbers to show the connections he created between the two as he tried to figure out what the numbers meant.
The book reads easily and is incredibly intriguing; people who enjoy mathematics will find several rich and provocative sections sure to delight, and anyone who is interested in reading a story where the main character is struggling to discover reality will also find this to be a very interesting and unique read. The narrator, Chally, is a wholly believable Everyman from Iowa that audiences will easily relate to, and the idea behind the novel is conveyed excellently and with skill, sure to entice readers from all different backgrounds. Do You Believe is it Real or Fiction? by Scott Chally is a brilliant and engrossing novel with an unreliable narrator and full of creative twists that many people will enjoy.
