Daemon Rising by John William is a fantasy novel that features deadly magic and powerful characters. It explores the incredible powers of magic and the limitless temptations that accompany it. Imlod Nir is a great fighter and he has been through thick and thin. He is manipulated by his sister, Galfayan, a witch and necromancer who is his master. He has been compelled to follow her deadly plans and do unspeakable things for her. But will he lose his soul for her? Dragan of Ost is a renowned fighter who has gained many titles. He is feared everywhere. But his power comes from his mother, who doubles as his mistress. His mother has driven him to do unspeakable evil, abandoning friends and a lover. He will be nothing without the power that comes from her, except he discovers her secret. But time is running out for him. Can he get free from her grip before it is too late?
Daemon Rising is an engrossing novel that explores the intoxicating power of magic and a necromancer’s boundless quest to harness and keep that power. The characters are strong and multidimensional and their relationship with the symbol of evil in this novel is well-developed. John William uses the different plotlines to create suspense, and as a reader moves from one character to another, they feel like drifting between two worlds. The suspense also deepens as readers want to find out what will become of the warrior characters. Can they get free from the grip of the necromancer? The story has a strong, gripping plot and characters that I cared about. The writing is littered with beautiful and vivid descriptions. In short, this is a story that is as transporting as it is entertaining.
