Crossfire is the first novel in Alex Croft's Sultry Chicago suspense series. To meet with the vice president of Gallagher Incorporated, CEO Peyton Scott-Baird traveled to Savannah. Scott-Baird Industries was considering collaborating with the fashion business to manufacture bulletproof clothes that resemble regular attire. Connor, a childhood friend of Peyton, was thrilled at the opportunity to manufacture body armor to protect his fellow rangers. Peyton had always wanted this technology, believing that her mother and Connor's father would still be alive today if it had been around years ago. Connor, Peyton, and their bodyguards were caught in the crossfire of a professional hitman as they were surveying the potential manufacturing location. The party was forced to run and hide, but the question remained whether the hitman was pursuing Connor or Peyton.
Alex Croft's Crossfire is an exciting journey through the intricacies of passion, deceit, and trust. The plot moved along at a breakneck speed from the beginning, with tension building at every turn. It was a page-turner, and with every new development and turn, I gripped the book harder. The character development was excellent, and the plot drew me in and kept me intrigued. My favorite character was Peyton. She was a strong woman who worked hard to make her dream come true. As the story unfolded, Peyton and Connor's chemistry intensified, and their relationship was reignited. I cheered for Peyton and Conner through unexpected turns as the stakes rose and danger came closer. My attention was captivated by the well-crafted and executed plot which kept me interested throughout.
