Crime Unknown is a work of fiction in the crime genre by author Chuck Morgan. It is the seventh book in the Buck Taylor series and is intended for mature readers owing to the presence of explicit language and some sexual situations. The main storyline follows an investigation into the death of a POC student found hanging in a basement. Initially considered a suicide by the local police, pressure from the victim’s parents brings Buck Taylor and his team to investigate in this peaceful town in the mountains of Colorado. With the clock ticking and help not forthcoming, Buck begins to realize that the peace of the town is an illusion hiding a dark and dangerous truth.
Author Chuck Morgan doesn’t hesitate to grab your attention with a gripping plot from the moment you start the book. One of the most enjoyable things about this novel was how well thought out and well delivered the plot was, and it was easy to get back into despite not having read anything in the series for a little while myself. The story was engaging, interesting, and easy to follow, and the characters are all fully developed and defined, making it easy to engage and identify with them. Throughout the book, clues are dropped in at well-placed intervals and when we get the resolution, everything that is told to us makes sense and provides satisfaction as a good crime novel should. Crime Unknown is a thoroughly enjoyable read and I would not hesitate to recommend this book to fans of the crime genre and those looking for a gateway in.
